Also known by other names as renal dialysis technician, hemodialysis technician, or nephrology technician, a dialysis technician is an integral performer of number of important roles (we'll discuss later in this document) related to dialysis treatment.

Job Description: Nephrology techs are responsible for the smooth execution of work related to kidney treatment. They perform variety of tasks ranging from water treatment monitoring, to equipment repair and maintenance, to vascular access monitoring, to dialyzer reprocessing, and to direct patient care as well.
Besides this, they help physicians and their senior nurses but performing duties enlisted below:
  • Taking Blood Pressure
  • Patient blood sterilization
  • Calculation of fluid removal rate and their adjustments
  • Run the hemodialysis machine
  • Pre, post and during treatment assessments
  • Handle transportation of patient to dialysis room
  • Cleanse area of access and more.
Training: Nephrology technician training program will help to let you know about how to perform dialysis on a patient. Dialysis training program, usually, take six to twelve weeks to complete and such training can be gained from community colleges and technical training institutions. The course-work of Nephrology technician training program include classroom instructions, clinical training. After completing graduation in this area, student will be provided either a certificate as a proof of training or technical diploma, depending upon the institution providing training.

Certifications: For further career advancements, Hemodialysis techs are advised to do certifications after gaining required experience in the same field. Graduate or diploma holder can pass their certification under the titles enlisted below: Certification in Clinical Nephrology Technology, Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician, and Certified Hemodialysis Technician.
